The Canal du Midi

The Canal du Midi 5 MINUTES WALKING

Toulouse takes up a strategic geographical position in South-West France as it is halfway between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Garonne permits the connexion between Toulouse and Bordeaux through a fluvial route. And it is thanks to Pierre-Paul Riquet, inventor and architect, that the Canal du Midi is finally opened to trafic in 1681 after 15 years of tremendous site works.

Since 1996, the Canal du Midi is part of UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites.
